Religious Education
The Way, the Truth & the Life
RE at The Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School
Intent
To provide a Catholic Christian education based on the life and teaching of Jesus Christ, in which the Gospel values underpin all aspects of school life. Education, which is firmly rooted in scripture and presents Catholicism as a world Church, open to the truth in other religions and encouraging learners to engage with and discuss the big issues of today’s world. To ensure that the dignity of each person, as a child of God, is recognised and developed in everything we do.
Implementation
We are using ‘The Way, The Truth and The Life’ Scheme of work, which is implemented from Early Years through to Year 6. Each year is split into 6 topics, one per half term and is organised to coincide with major events in the liturgical year. Each year group studies a different topics, taught on a two-year cycle to ensure that topics are not repeated in our mixed-age classes.
Impact
Children understand that they are loved by God, their teachers and friends at The Holy Spirit. They are taught to see God in all things. They have a strong sense of moral purpose, respect for others and show self-awareness when forming their own ideas and beliefs. Children demonstrate appreciation and wonder of the world they live in and are confident in their ability to make a positive difference in their own lives and the lives of others.
