Dear parents/carers,

A very warm welcome to you and your child to our first school term, which will be full of fun and exciting learning experiences. We are looking forward to a successful and enjoyable year ahead and to working with you in ensuring your child receives the best possible start in their education. We would also like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to some housekeeping matters:

School Time

Every morning, children need to line up on the playground for 8:55 am, unless the school doors are open prior that time due to heavy rainfall, in which case your child can walk straight into his/her classroom. To reduce the congestion of children at home time, we are going to release our Reception/Year 1 children at 3pm and the Year 1/2 children at 3.05pm.

Being Prepared for School

  • Could you please ensure that, every day, your child arrives to school on time, wearing the correct school uniform and shoes, carrying their blue school bag (including their reading book and reading journal, snack money, any reply slips requested and having completed their homework).
  • Your child’s PE kit should include the white school PE t-shirt, blue shorts and black pumps, clearly labelled with your child’s name on. The PE kit will remain in school until the last day of the half-term, which is when they will return it home to be washed to bring it back to school on the first day of the new school term.
  • Your child should not be bringing any toys/objects from home (unless requested by school) as not only do they distract children from their learning but could be easily misplaced or damaged.

Could you also ensure that your child’s school uniform, school bag, PE kit and bag, coats, hats, scarfs and shoes have your child’s name on, so we can return any lost items to their rightful owners. Also, to ensure that your child’s outdoor learning is not inhibited by the weather, we would ask to send a pair of wellies for your child to use when needed.

Snack Money

If your child is in Year 1, they need to bring their snack money for the week (£1.50), either every Monday or pay for the term in advance. If your child is in Reception, we would ask for a weekly donation of £1.00 per week, which could also be paid in advance for the term. Please send all the money in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on.

In order to set up the parents’ account for our new Tapestry programme, which will regularly inform you of your child’s learning journey in school, we need you to sign the Tapestry agreement slip, including your up-to-date e-mail address. If you have not returned the Tapestry reply slip to school already, please do so as soon as possible but no later than Friday, 22nd September 2017.

Every week your child will be given a reading book, which initially might only include pictures for you to discuss with your child. Please ensure that you read/discuss a book with your child every day for at least 10-15 min, as children who read at home make much better progress in reading in comparison to children who do not.

Also, every Friday your child will be given a Homework book with activities for him/her to complete with your support. Please ensure you help your child with those activities as parental support is extremely important for children’s progress in school.
